Conversation Topic:

How do you talk about community integration?

We’re hoping for a rich, practical discussion and would love your input as we explore questions like:

  • How do you explain community integration to referral sources who are rooted in a medical model?
  • What language or framing has been most effective when describing your services?
  • How do you differentiate community integration from traditional outpatient or higher levels of care?
  • What challenges or misconceptions do you commonly encounter—and how do you address them?

We’re especially excited to welcome several new member organizations and will take time for introductions so everyone has the opportunity to connect and get to know one another.

During the meeting, we’ll also review our goals for the upcoming year and begin discussing the formation of sub-committees to support our shared priorities and continued growth.

The Benefits of Volunteerism in Community Integration

Presented by: Tom Novak, Career and Education Development Coordinator at Spruce Mountain Inn

Community integration is most effective when it is built into treatment itself, not treated as a goal that happens afterward. In this session, Spruce Mountain Inn will explore how structured volunteer programs can serve as a powerful clinical tool within community-based care. Participants will learn how meaningful volunteer experiences help clients build skills, explore career interests, and strengthen social connection while supporting mental health recovery. Through client examples and supporting research, this presentation will demonstrate how volunteer engagement can become a practical, evidence-informed component of treatment that promotes purpose and long-term community integration.
